I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Georgia in 1989. I have a Master of Arts degree from Argosy University in School Counseling.

This is my third year working as a School Counselor here at Ringgold Primary School. As a School Counselor, I am an educator trained in School Counseling, just as other educators are trained in math, science or language arts. My job at RPS is to develop and implement a comprehensive School Counseling program designed to meet the needs of every student. To accomplish this goal, I provide classroom guidance lessons individual student planning, responsive services and system support. These are the four components of a School Counseling program.

Classroom guidance lessons help students understand themselves and others. Through classroom guidance, School Counselors help students develop peer relationships, effective social skills, decision making skills and study skills, effective communications, conflict resolutions, coping strategies and explore safe and healthy choices.

Individual student planning helps students set goals, establish academic and career plans, understand their own strengths and weaknesses, and to prepare for the transitions.

Responsive services assist students with particular needs, such as adjusting to a new school, coping with grief following a crisis or loss, or dealing with family changes or challenges. Responsive services are provided through individual and small group counseling, consultation with teachers, and referrals to community professionals trained in mental health and other specialities.

System support enhances school climate and relationships among members of the school community. School Counselors coordinate parent outreach services, community support services and consultations with other faculty and staff to facilitate collaboration and a greater understanding or students' developmental needs.

It is with great pleasure that I get to work with students at Ringgold Primary School! I have found RPS students, parents, and staff to be involved, inquisitive, compassionate and enthusiastic, and in general, a great group of people to be around!

Being a School Counselor is the best - I enjoy the variety of roles a counselor plays in an amazing place called school!

My husband and I have two daughters - ages 18 and 14. We enjoy hanging out with family and friends, taking trips to the beach, attending sporting events, and eating good food! We have been married 23 years and live in Rocky Face, Ga. Our oldest daughter will be attending Paul Mitchell cosmetology school in Atlanta and furthering her career as a hair stylist. Our other daughter will be a freshman at Northwest Whitfield High School.
