I want to welcome you to Ringgold Primary School. I hope to make this a wonderful and exciting year for your child. If at any time you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me before or after school at 937-5437, room #710 or message me on Class DOJO.

PARENT INFORMATION

Attendance: Kindergarten is a busy, hands-on learning place. Our day officially begins at 8:00a.m. and the dismissal process begins at 2:15 p.m. Regular attendance in kindergarten is expected. A successful year depends upon the habit of regular attendance. When a child is absent, tardy, or checked out early it is nearly impossible to make up work at home. I know that your child will be sick from time to time during the year, but I want to encourage you to send your child to school every day possible. If your child is contagious, has a fever, or is vomiting he/she needs to stay at home. You will be notified through letters, phone, or other communication from our principals or me if a problem with attendance occurs. Please view school as a priority, and see to it that your child attends every day except in cases of illness or emergency.

Absences: Georgia law requires daily attendance in kindergarten. If a student misses 3 or more hours during a day, it is considered an absence. Notes for excused absences need to be given to me within 24 hours of the child returning to school. I need a written note to put in your child’s file.

 If your child misses:

10 or more days- I must have a doctor’s excuse for each absence. Students with frequent absences may be subject to a review by the Catoosa County Attendance Review Board. This includes 5 unexcused absences, 8-10 absences that are either unexcused or notes written by the parent, or a combination of 10 tardies and/or early dismissals. School Board policy states that, your child will not be promoted to first grade if he/she misses 20 or more days, pending attendance appeal.

Tardies: You will need to walk your child in and stop by the office to sign your child in any day that you arrive at school after 8:00. The office will give you an admission slip that needs to be given to me so that I can change the absence to a tardy on the computer records.

Early Checkouts: Please limit early checkouts to emergencies or doctor appointments. We must know who is in the building at all times, so make sure you stop by the office first before coming to the room. The office will give you a slip of paper or call the room to let me know. I will not be able to release a student until I receive the paper or a call from the office.

Arrival to school: Any student arriving prior to 7:30 will go to the cafeteria to be supervised. At 7:30, students will then be walked to their classrooms where their teacher will supervise until the school day begins. If your child will be eating breakfast at school, he/she will go directly to the cafeteria and then come to the room when they are finished eating.

Personal Items: It is important to put your child’s name on ALL jackets, backpacks, and lunchboxes. Toys are not to be brought to school.

Parent Participation: A good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success. During the year I will communicate with you through notes, telephone calls, weekly newsletters, and progress reports, report cards, and parent- teacher conferences. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time.

WE NEED YOU! There are so many ways to help out in and out of the classroom. During the year there will be several special classroom activities and celebrations that you will be invited to attend. Remember to stop by the office and sign in when you plan on staying in the building. The PTO meets monthly and I hope to see you represent your child at these meetings. Your support of school activities makes your child feel important and sends the message that you value school.

Changes In Transportation: If you plan to pick up a child that normally rides the bus or you wish for your child to ride a different bus than usual, you MUST send a written note or fax to school (937-8383).  If no note is received, your child will be sent home by his/her normal method of transportation. Also, discuss with your child any changes that are made. I want your child to feel at ease at the end of the day.If you have another child at RES, you can pick both children up through the RES car rider line.

Recess: The children will go out for recess every day unless it is raining, below 32º, or above 95º. We are fortunate to have a variety of playground equipment, including several pieces for climbing. Please keep this in mind when helping your child select clothing and shoes for the day. Cowboy boots and little girl’s dress shoes are less than ideal if your child plays on the equipment.

Daily/Homework Folder: Your child has been given a daily folder that will be sent home every day and should be returned the following day. Please check your child’s folder, many times it will contain important information that must be signed and returned the next day.

Fieldtrips:  Fieldtrips offer children opportunities to experience things taught in the classroom. A permission slip will be sent home 2-3 weeks prior to the event. Please sign and return the form immediately and send in the requested contribution as soon as possible. Adult guests are encouraged to serve as chaperones. You may follow the buses to our destination and take your child home with you after the event. I will let you know our field trip plans as soon as possible!
